This is Why Late Autumn is the Best time to Visit Miami

Miami is always hot, in more ways than one! For those of us who live here, we’ve known and loved Miami for that reason. There is always something to get into. With the holidays fast approaching, there is no better time to explore this lovely and dynamic city.

So, When is the Best Time to Visit Miami?

If you haven’t yet, you may be wondering when is the best time to visit Miami. There is no time like the present. Autumn is truly the best time of year to explore Miami and familiarize yourself with the cultural richness of the “sunshine state”. With a mixture of beautiful beaches, architecture, and people, once you arrive – you’ll never want to leave! So, why is Autumn the best time to visit Miami again? We thought you’d never ask!

Get Ready to Dance!

There’s no party like a Miami party! For those moments when you’d like to enjoy good music and adult beverages, the Miami nightlife is the perfect solution. And there’s so much to choose from during the Autumn season! With the temperatures cooling off, the nighttime is full of life.

Are you a salsa dancer? Better yet, would you like to learn? Well, Miami’s Latin-infused culture is the perfect place to start. Against the backdrop of Miami’s iconic oceanfront beaches and neon lights, you can practice your timing and steps. Enjoy some of the worlds best and most popular DJs in South Beach or two-step at one of many jazz clubs. If that’s still not your tempo, you can relax in any one of the many bars and lounges available throughout the city.

And speaking of beaches, did we mention we have some of the best in the world? Some of the best ways to catch a glimpse of Miami’s beauty are through bike and kayaking tours. If that sounds interesting, the Little Havana Bike and Food Tour takes it to another level. This tour allows you to sample authentic Cuban dishes while taking in the rich culture and history of the area. Don’t forget to soak in the sun of Miami’s South Beach with Segway Tours.

Something Special for the Art Lovers

After basking in the sun and dancing the night away, you can’t forget to visit Miami Art Week, also known as Art Basel Miami Beach. This event that takes place in December features over 1200 galleries with various featured artists.

Coming to visit a little earlier in the year? The Wynwood Art & Beer Tour is an exciting alternative to discovering Miami’s vibrant art culture. Not only will you learn about Miami’s street art culture, but you’ll be making pit stops at local breweries and enjoying pop art, fine art, and contemporary art from well-known artists in the Wynwood Art District. Not a bad way to spend two hours in Miami!

A Must-see Attraction

Last but certainly not least, a trip to Key West is a must. Autumn is the best time to visit since the hurricane season is trailing off. May we recommend five hour round trip day tours in Key West?

Try a dolphin cruise or a walk around The Hemingway Home for a different perspective of the beautiful Keys. Officially known as the Ernest Hemingway Home and Museum, it once was the residence of the late author Ernest Hemingway in Key West. Come and discover the late author’s studio and a gorgeous pool in a laid-back environment of historical significance. If you are an animal lover, you may not want to miss the six-toed cats that roam the house!

Whatever adventure you are looking for while visiting the “sunshine state”, Miami will not disappoint. The cultural experience of Brazilian, Cuban, Columbian, Peruvian, and Mexican nationalities will broaden your horizons and leave you wanting more.

And in case you weren’t aware, Miami is located directly next to the Florida Everglades, which happens to be the largest tropical wilderness in the United States. Before you leave, make sure to check out the mesmerizing wildlife and pet a baby tiger. See you in Miami soon! If you want to know more, visit our website, today!

Brief History of Miami Beach

miami beach florida

Palm trees. Sunshine. Suntans. Miami Vice. Hollywood. Beautiful people. These are all the thoughts that come to mind when Miami Beach is mentioned. However, Miami Beach history is rich and full of entrepreneurial success, diversity, and military presence. The city has transformed into a cultural arts mecca as one of the world’s most visited tourist destinations.

Before it became Miami Beach, “Mayaimi” was sought after for the Miami River as a food supply by Native Americans known as Tequesta tribe. Juan Ponce was the first European to visit in 1513, resulting in Spain being credited with the first reported landing in 1566. Soon, Spain began a mission on Christianity which failed and the majority of the tribe died from smallpox and other diseases.

As more Native Americans were displaced from the US land expansion initiatives in the 1700s, many migrated to South Florida. The Seminoles tribe made up the majority of the migrants. When Florida was ceded to the US and purchased from Spain, the Seminole tribe waged 3 wars against the US government in 1819. The Miami area was devastated from the wars, which slowed settlement progress until 1842.

The “Village of Miami”

William English chartered the “Village of Miami” on the south bank of the Miami River. Soon after, a wealthy widow purchased a citrus plantation and envisioned the city as a gateway to international trade. She persuaded a millionaire to extend a railroad to Miami, agreeing to give him land in exchange.

Miami Beach began as a 165-acre plot of land purchased from Quakers for planting and harvesting coconuts for $ 0.25 an acre in 1875. Much of the land was originally marsh but was turned into a man-made island with the help of the Army Corps of Engineers after being sold to two new partners from New Jersey. It wasn’t long until many entrepreneurs recognized the potential of Miami Beach.

The “BillionDollar Sandbar”

In 1896, the railroad tracks made it to Miami and the city was incorporated. At this time, only men had the right to vote and a majority of them were Bahamian migrants. The “City of Miami” was official with 444 citizens. The partners eventually build and completed the first bridge from Miami to Miami Beach in 1913 and it was the longest wooden wagon bridge in the world for that time period. Streets, water, and power systems were soon built and the city flourished. Miami Beach eventually became known as the “BillionDollar Sandbar”, separated by Biscayne Bay from Miami mainland.

The 1920s brought about explosive growth and financial prosperity in the 1920s, which is evident in the 3-mile stretch known as “Millionaire Row”. This area was eventually developed over time with small hotels becoming the famous Art Deco District, also popularly known as South Beach or “SoBe”. It became a major military training center during WW II with half a million Army Air Corp serviceman, eventually making Miami Beach their permanent home and doubling the prewar population.

In 1959, Fidel Castro took over Cuba and half a million Cubans migrated to the area, drastically shifting the demographics and culture. According to the 2000 Census, the Miami Beach population consisted of 56% foreign-born residents, with Latinos comprising a majority of this group. The 80s and 90s saw an influx of capital investment and luxurious redevelopment, turning Miami Beach into America’s playground.   early miami

The 21st Century Miami Beach

Now, Miami Beach is almost unrecognizable when compared to the 80s and 90s. However, as Miami Beach history has shown, it still remains the center of international culture. Miami Beach is now a cultural hub with a dynamic mix of Caribbean, Haitian, Nicaraguan, and Cuban – American flavor.

It remains the headquarters for many multinational companies and financial institutions. Its eclectic flair and cultural diversity is a draw for many tourists around the world. We welcome you to discover the beauty of Miami Beach history for yourself beginning on Ocean Drive, where many famous Hollywood films were made.
